The Strength Unit – classes
I would just like to say how much I am enjoying my sessions at The Strength Unit. I started on 1st October and have just done my monthly measurements. I am gobsmacked.
In one month I have lost: Bust: 3cm, Arm : 2 1/4 cm, Thigh: 7cm, Hips: 2 1/4 cm, Waist: 3 3/4cm.
This is from 3 sessions a week and my diet has not been great.

I started personal training sessions to lose weight after a few half hearted gym memberships. Al and Ali had me using kettlebells and lifting weights, both of which I’d never used before; alongside other exercises. Weight training was a lot more fun than I expected and much better than long cardio sessions at the gym!
They are genuinely concerned for your wellbeing and won’t force you to do anything you don’t feel you can’t do – I had an issue with my hips so rather than pushing me to do full planks, they adapted the exercise to take this into account.
I noticed an increase in my strength and fitness really quickly. Al’s nutrition and home training tips were really useful but watch out for his dodgy taste in workout music! 😉

After a few months of building myself up to it (or maybe years!) I finally decided enough was enough and I had to do something about my health and fitness.
I found Ali after a search for personal trainers in the Leeds area and initially it was the website that drew me to her – friendly, honest and, should I say, women friendly.
As with most people I was nervous about exercising in a gym in front of people and didn’t really know what I should be doing. This is why I thought a personal trainer would be able to help me set up a exercise plan to suit my actual needs along with advice on nutrition.
I stayed with Ali as my trainer for 6 months and, after a whole life of hating exercise, actually started to love going and missing it if I was unable to go!
She worked to my needs and abilities (overweight, knee issues and randomly motion sickness when swinging kettle bells!) to get me to a place where everything wasn’t hurting as much and I can happily go to the gym on my own with confidence.
This, along with listening to my after work rants and random music choices, makes Ali a great trainer and now a friend.
I am so looking forward to the opening of ‘The Strength Unit’ and seeing what new exercise routines Ali can concoct!

I’ve only been working with Ali a relatively short time but her enthusiasm is infectious. One-to-one with Allister
I decided to have some fortnightly PT sessions with Al to help my preparation for my first marathon. (time and money allowing, I would have done weekly ones!)
It was definitely worthwhile; the sessions were fun and challenging, at times to suit my busy schedule. Al gave me a tailored strength and conditioning course to improve my leg strength and help prevent injury, which helped me get through the physical challenge of a marathon.
He also gave me advice to improve my nutrition both generally and in the final week of preparation, I really felt the benefit of this in the last few miles of the race.

One-to-one with Allister
Before starting my personal training with Allister, I was struggling with my weight and didn’t feel comfortable with my body shape. After meeting Allister and going through everything I needed to do to get me on track I felt excited and ready to go.
I attended once a week for a training session and after a few weeks could see and feel the difference, if it wasn’t for Allister being there with me all the time, I would have easily given up. However, with his support and motivation he kept me going.

I worked with Ali for about 8 months following years of trying to build regular exercise into a busy professional schedule.
We trained twice a week through the summer, autumn and winter and no session was the same, Ali is brilliant at keeping exercise interesting, using her studio and the outdoors to full benefit and ensuring that she tuned into my mood after a busy day.

Having tried numerous diets and had just as many gym memberships, I can honestly say there is no quick fix to losing weight and increasing personal fitness, it takes determination and encouragement from others. I found I got both with Ali.
Within the first 6/7 weeks I had lost around 12 lbs. Not a great loss, but a rate which was sustainable.
The programme was tailored to my availability, specific needs and ability, taking into account the muscle and joint stiffness that creeps up in later life. The wide range of exercises and routines made this one of the least boring fitness programmes I have undertaken!!
Exercising outdoors during our excellent summer made it feel even less like hard work. The first area of improvement I noticed was my golf, I did not have tired legs or get breathless playing hilly courses and more importantly my handicap improved. I can honestly say that one of the main benefits of with working with Ali is that the programmes are tailored to you; not just a regime for everyone and can be carried out in her studio, at your own home or outdoors.

I had always been relatively fit and toned, so after having my first child in November I was faced with a huge shock. Three months later I was still over a stone heavier than I wanted to be, and I had lost all muscle tone. I had lost my confidence, and felt apprehensive returning to the gym as my lower back muscles were still very weak and I was worried about injuring myself.
I found Ali and she was my saviour! Her friendly approach makes her so easy to workout with, but she doesn’t let you get away with anything. After a few sleepless nights, exercise is often the last thing on my mind but there has not been one time I wish I’d cancelled – workouts are fun and I always feel invigorated afterwards.
Workouts are focused and varied and we do exercises I would never have thought of trying on my own – free weights have transformed my upper back and shoulders and I have Ali to thank for that! I am also almost back to my pre-pregnancy weight, my body fat is down and my muscle tone is up. Lack of motivation is the main reason I do not exercise so I decided to try a personal trainer. Ali has been very reliable and had certainly helped me with my keep fit plan. She is very knowledgeable and makes sure the routines are completed to the best of my abilities. Andrew and I had different requirements from our trainer – he wanted mainly cardiovascular and stamina training whereas I also wanted toning and core muscle work. Ali bases our training sessions around circuits to cater for all the muscle groups and because there are only two of us, she makes sure we keep going! I cannot rate Ali more highly! If you are considering a personal trainer then look no further! I first started training with Ali in January. Having gained a few STONE, becoming very UNFIT, lacking motivation and willpower I decided enough was enough!
It was a stroke of luck that I came across her, just doing random searches for personal trainers in my area. I’m so very glad I found her!
I have done the gyms, done classes, done 100’s of diets but at 40 years of age I’m finally getting back to the level of fitness and body I had 10 years ago…. I’m starting to regain my confidence, look good, and of course feel fitter and healthier!
From the start I loved the sessions! She has sooooo many different regimes you will certainly never be bored! You will however SWEAT! As the saying goes NO PAIN – NO GAIN! Obviously you will work up to higher levels of fitness and Ali knows exactly how and when to take you to the next level! As I said she knows her stuff!
I would love to have sessions with Ali every day, but its not always possible due to my work, weekends etc and even personal trainers have days off! However I have the next best thing… personal workouts that she has tailored to me! So there is no excuse!
If you are looking for some motivation, want to get fitter or fancy a change from the gyms, need to lose some weight etc, then I suggest you contact ALI! You will not be disappointed! Don’t worry about equipment, she has it all! Just find a little space, and she will help you with the rest!
